Today, the Supreme Court declined to review the Department’s electronic vessel tracking requirement in the lobster fishery, which leaves the First Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision in place and brings a conclusion to this case.
DMR continues to believe this data collection requirement is critically important to the long-term sustainability of the lobster fishery and resource. It will inform the lobster stock assessment, enhance offshore enforcement, and support better decision-making in a range of federal management contexts.
