This online course is specifically for parents and guardians. It provides an overview of what MaineCare is and how students may access services in schools. This course takes about forty-five minutes to complete. You can access these online courses posted using a desktop, tablet or mobile device.

MaineCare in Education Online Courses

Please take the courses in order, starting with MaineCare 100. At the end of each course, there is an option to submit contact information to verify participation and receive a certificate of completion. You can access all of the online courses through a desktop, tablet, or mobile device.

MaineCare in Education: Online Courses

MaineCare 100: Introduction to MaineCare (coming soon)

This course presents an overview of the MaineCare program. Participants will learn about the purpose of the program, basic eligibility requirements, the application process, member responsibilities, and what resources are available for MaineCare members. This course takes about 45 minutes to complete.

MaineCare 101: Introduction to School Health-Related Services (coming soon)

Sometimes students need to access health services in school settings. Since there are separate federal and state regulations and authorities providing guidance for Medicaid (in Maine, MaineCare) and education programs, it is critical to understand how the two systems work together to support students. This course explains the basics for MaineCare reimbursement in school settings. Participants will learn about the services MaineCare providers can deliver in school settings. This course takes about 45 minutes to complete.

MaineCare 102: Advanced School Health-Related Services for Providers (coming soon)

MaineCare providers must ensure they understand the full scope of requirements related to delivery of MaineCare-covered services. This course provides an opportunity for participants to expand on the information presented in MaineCare 100 and 101 related to the delivery of school health-related services. This course takes about two hours to complete.

MaineCare 103: Private Duty Nursing Services (coming soon)

Through this course, participants will have the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of Private Duty Nursing (PDN) services. As with other school health-related services, schools have the option to deliver services directly or by contracting with an enrolled MaineCare provider, like a PDN.

MaineCare 104: VitalCare for Kids, Maine’s EPSDT Program for Children and Youth (coming soon)

VitalCare for Kids is how Maine has implemented the federal Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) benefits for MaineCare-enrolled children and youth. This lesson explains the goal of VitalCare for Kids, what kind of services MaineCare can approve under the program, and where to find more information about accessing VitalCare for Kids.

MaineCare 105: Navigating Seed (coming soon)

This module is specifically for school administrators responsible for oversight of their School Administrative Unit’s MaineCare reimbursement. This course provides in-depth training on what Seed is, and how to access and review quarterly Seed reports.

MaineCare 106: MaineCare Benefits Manual, Chapter II, School Health-Related Services (coming soon)

This training provides information on the new section of the MaineCare Benefits Manual.
 

MaineCare in Education: New Microlearning Modules

These are short, targeted learning sessions to guide participants in understanding different MaineCare in Education-related topics. Each module will take about 15 minutes or less to complete.

Registration for MaineCare in Education Team

All providers who deliver MaineCare services and any other interested parties can sign up to be part of the “MaineCare in Education Sessions” team. You will receive information and resources about school health-related services through virtual meetings and training opportunities. Complete the online form to register.

Development of a New School Health-Related Services Rule 

The Office of MaineCare Services is drafting a new section of the MaineCare Benefits Manual (MBM), Section 106. This will include requirements for school health-related services. 

All interested parties can access MaineCare’s Rate System Reform webpage, which contains the most current information on the rate study currently in progress for Section 106. 

MaineCare will post updates on the rulemaking as information becomes available.
