WIC Food Benefits

The food benefits provided support WIC's nutrition education messages, support successful long-term breastfeeding, and provide more variety of foods. Food benefits are tailored to a participant's needs, age, and breastfeeding level. For example, a woman who is fully breastfeeding her baby receives different types and amounts of foods than a one-year-old child.

WIC Food Guide

Find a list of WIC approved foods in the WIC Shopping Guide Revised Jan 2026 (PDF). The Visual Food Package Guide (PDF) helps show the size and amount of food you can get.

The Maine CDC WIC Nutrition Program provides contract brand specific standard infant formula. At this time, the standard infant formula contract is with Abbott for five Similac brand formulas.

Monthly Cash Value Benefit (CVB)

The current monthly CVB for fruits and vegetables are:

  • $26 for child participants,
  • $47 for pregnant and postpartum participants, and
  • $52 for fully and partially breast/chestfeeding participants.

WICShopper App

The WICShopper app helps users find their WIC foods at the store. It is also a great resource for information about your WIC clinic, next appointment, yummy recipes, and a calculator to help you shop. Download the app for free in the App Store or Google Play.

Shopping with Farmers

WIC authorized farmers provide participants with a variety of WIC-allowed fruits and vegetables. Before checkout, participants must generate a barcode in the BNFT app and present it to the farmer. This barcode ensures that WIC and FMNP benefits are redeemed correctly for the foods prescribed to each participant. Please note that farmers cannot accept WIC cards.

Be ready to create a Bnft account. You will need

  1. WIC EBT card number
  2. Birthdate
  3. Zip Code
  4. Email address
  5. Create an account in the app or visit the Bnft website
