American Beaver

Nature’s hard-working neighbor

Where Beavers Build

Beavers live statewide anywhere there’s water to work with – streams, rivers, lakes, ponds, marshes, and wetlands.

Beaver Business

Beavers are ecosystem engineers, building dams that create wetlands and improve water quality for many other species. They don’t hibernate, spending winter in their lodges living off food stored underwater. Their ever-growing teeth stay sharp through constant chewing, and that iconic flat tail helps them swim, balance, and warn others when danger’s near.
