Raccoon

The masked bandit with special hands

Home Sweet Home

Raccoons live statewide in Maine, especially near water, forests, farmland, and neighborhoods—anywhere food and shelter are close by.

Raccoon Know-How

Raccoons have highly dexterous front paws and an excellent sense of touch, making them expert foragers. In winter, they slow things down, denning up and living off fat reserves when food is scarce. They shelter in tree cavities, abandoned burrows, or brush piles with their young which are called “kits”.
