WHEREAS, 211 Maine is a Maine-based health and human services and emergency preparedness and response helpline, providing free and confidential referrals to needed resources to Maine people; and
WHEREAS, 211 Maine provides 24/7 service statewide by people employed in Maine through efficient and effective response to the growing complexities and needs of Maine residents; and
WHEREAS, for 20 years, 211 Maine has worked diligently to confront and reduce the stigma associated with seeking support by affirming that doing so reflects personal strength; and
WHEREAS, since 2006, 211 Maine specialists have answered more than 1 million calls from people across the state looking for needed information from housing support and food resources to substance use and recovery services; and
WHEREAS, 211 Maine provides emergency operations support during times of natural and other disasters, including assisting the Maine Emergency Management Agency field calls from those impacted and collecting data to inform severity and locations of need, and directing people looking for local heating shelters or cooling centers; and
WHEREAS, 211 Maine handles several specialized services and partnerships, including providing the Opiate Helpline and the Gambling Helpline, distributing emergency heating assistance through the Keep Me Warm fund, and serving as a resource for mental health services and tax preparation; and
WHEREAS, 211 Maine stands as a compelling example of how coordinated efforts among government, nonprofit organizations, and private-sector partners can elevate the well-being of Maine's citizens;
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Janet T. Mills, Governor of the State of Maine, do hereby proclaim July 7, 2026 as
211 Maine Day
throughout the state, and I urge everyone to utilize and spread awareness of this important resource for Maine people.
