Bangor and Brewer, MAINE — Governor Janet Mills announced the opening of a $5 million grant program through her Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan today to strengthen Maine entrepreneurs, startups, and small businesses. This program represents the second round of grants from the Pandemic Recovery for an Innovative Maine Economy (PRIME) Fund, administered by the Maine Technology Institute (MTI).

More than 2,900 Maine small businesses to receive a one-time utility account credit funded through the Governor’s Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan to offset energy costs  

Governor Janet Mills announced today that 2,919 Maine small businesses and nonprofit organizations will soon receive a one-time electric utility account credit of more than $2,000 to provide relief from increased energy costs. This relief is the product of legislation sponsored by Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Aroostook, and signed into law by Governor Mills.  

Sanford, MAINE – During a visit to Sanford today, Governor Janet Mills highlighted a new $34 million partnership between the City of Sanford and the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) that will revitalize the city’s downtown.

Bucksport, MAINE —During a visit to Bucksport today, Governor Janet Mills visited two local seafood processing businesses who received grants awarded through her Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan to upgrade their infrastructure.

With Federal forecasts expecting energy prices to remain high this winter, the Governor’s Energy Office has updated its winter heating resource guide to help Maine people and families take action to save money, improve their home’s energy efficiency, and find heating assistance if needed.

Today Governor Janet Mills directed the Maine Department of Marine Resources (DMR) to file a motion to expedite the appeal of a recent decision by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in Maine Lobstermen’s Association v. National Marine Fisheries Service.

Governor Janet Mills announced that the Finance Authority of Maine will begin accepting applications for $58 million in forgivable small business loans through the “Thrive Maine” initiative of her Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan starting next Tuesday, October 4.

Funding Follows Push By Governor Mills

Governor Janet Mills today praised Congressional passage of a federal appropriations package containing $1 billion in emergency supplemental funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).  The funding will provide an additional estimated $8 million to Maine to help ensure that Maine people are able to safely heat their homes this winter.

Projects Include Historic Conservation of Deer Wintering Habitat at Reed Deadwater

Governor Janet Mills today announced 12 Land for Maine’s Future conservation projects across the State of Maine which will protect working lands and wildlife habitat and preserve public access to lakes, rivers, scenic views, and mountain vistas. The projects include Reed Deadwater, the state’s largest conservation project to protect deer wintering habitat to date.

New “Respite for ME” pilot program provides $2,000 grants to Maine people caring for a loved one with dementia or a disability

Governor Janet Mills announced today “Respite for ME”, a $5.1 million initiative of her Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan that will provide grants of up to $2,000 to Maine families who are caring for a family member at home.

This two-year pilot program, developed in partnership with five of Maine’s Area Agencies on Aging, begins on Monday, October 3.

High-quality education available to students statewide in robotics, programming, coding, and other key technologies

Governor Janet Mills today announced the launch of a new Maine Department of Education (DOE) initiative that will provide every Maine public school with a free mobile computer science lab. The effort, funded through the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund, will enable all Maine students to access high-quality learning experiences that provide real-word training in robotics, programming, augmented and virtual reality, coding, and hardware.

Second Round of Grants Build on $6 Million Already Awarded

Newry, MAINE – During the 62nd Annual Meeting of the Maine Forest Products Council today, Governor Janet Mills announced $14 million in grant funding is now available for Maine forestry companies from the second round of the Forest Recovery Initiative of her Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan.

Maine’s uninsured rate experienced the largest decline in the nation in recent years, Governor Janet Mills announced today.

The Governor highlighted a new report (PDF) from the U.S. Census Bureau showing that Maine’s uninsured rate dropped from 8.0 percent in 2019 to 5.7 percent in 2021, representing the largest percentage decline among all states in the nation.
